Engaging with Culture
In this talk, Roy McCloughry gives advice for those of us who want to engage with the culture in which we live and make our faith, the Gospel, relevant to those around us.
He considers various ways in which the Gospel might relate to culture, and asks how we can maintain the truth and integrity of Christianity whilst also ensuring that we present it in a way that is relevant to those who are listening.
Roy advocates four Biblical lenses through which we should examine the whole of history and culture: Creation; Compromise; Covenant; and Completion. As we live out our Christian life in a culture that can be either antagonistic or indifferent, he urges Christians to identify how they can speak and be heard in such a culture.
The talk was originally given to graduate students in the context of a possible academic life, but is equally relevant to all.
