Seeking the Welfare of the University
In this talk Donald Hay asks how Christian academics should conduct their lives and their research within the life of the university.
He explores this theme using the prophet Jeremiah's letter instructing the Jewish exiles in Babylon how to live (Jeremiah 29 and the echoes of the same ideas in 1 Peter), to consider life as a Christian in a secular institution today.
Amongst other topics, Donald considers what a university is for, looks at the biblical meanings of truth, knowledge and wisdom and considers how to respond to the problem of human error, advocating an attitude of humility in seeking truth over protecting one's intellectual ego.
